Silver Cord Program

The Silver Cord Award, an esteemed recognition at North Polk High School, commends students for their exceptional volunteer contributions. Participation in the program is voluntary for all NPHS students, with suggested service hour requirements outlined as follows:

  • 9th Grade: 20 Hours
  • 10th Grade: 40 Hours
  • 11th Grade: 40 Hours
  • 12th Grade: 40 Hours

Total: 140 Hours

Note: Due to COVID-related challenges and reduced opportunities in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years, adjustments have been made to the required hours.

Total hours needed to earn the Silver Cord Award at Graduation:

  • Class of 2026: 140 hours
  • Class of 2025: 140 hours*
  • Class of 2024: 110 hours*
  • Class of 2023: 80 hours*

For the convenience of students, an online "Pre-Approval Form" is provided, along with a downloadable PDF of the paper copy. Students should submit the form and gain approval before their service. After completing the service, students must obtain a supervisor's signature or have the supervisor email one of the counselors. Additionally, students are required to complete a reflection form on their service, which should be submitted along with the supervisor's signature.
